The United States Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy has released data on small businesses in each state to help create a picture of “each state’s small business health and economic activity.” The data includes the number of small businesses in each state, the number of employees of small businesses, economic growth numbers, the sizes of small businesses, and much more. Each state’s data is collected in PDF format, which makes it easy to share with colleagues and clients.

The data is collected at the SBA website here with a map that highlights the percentage of people self-employed around the country. Links to data for all 50 states, plus DC, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Marianas, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands can be found there.
