NASBP “Surety Shorts” and “Passion Tales” Being Told through Social Media

In the last Pipeline issue, I related that NASBP continues to build its video and social media resource library and continues to push out videos and social media posts to tell the compelling stories of surety. I mentioned that work now was underway on a new series of surety videos, which I will term “NASBP Surety Shorts,” that are distinct from the earlier set of “NASBP Surety Stories” focused on contractors, lenders, and project owners relating the importance of surety to their efforts. So, what are “NASBP Surety Shorts”?

NASBP Surety Shorts are nine brief videos, generally 30 seconds to 60 seconds, that center around a unifying theme: 9 Things Savvy Owners Should Know About Bonding. They are intended to be released in NASBP SmartBrief, on NASBP social media channels, i.e., NASBP LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and on YouTube and be present on NASBP websites, including the Be Guaranteed to Succeed site. Their brevity makes them ideal for consuming on mobile devices and easy to like and share by influencers. The nine videos succinctly answer questions most project owners—and other project participants—often have. The “surety shorts” series includes:

#1 Why Surety Bonds

#2 What is a Surety Bond?

#3 What Are Types of Construction Surety Bonds?

#4 Are Surety Bonds Prevalent on Public and Private Projects?

#5 What is the Cost of Surety Bonds?

#6 What Do Surety Professionals Look for in Contractors?

#7 How Do Surety Bonds Guarantee the Success of the Owner’s Project?

#8 How Can Owners Lower Costs and Avoid Liens?

#9 Are Surety Bonds Easy to Specify?

The first video in the series was released on July 20 and the second on August 10. Further videos in the series are being released approximately two to three weeks after the release of the prior video. Once all nine have been released, the entire series will be resident on the Be Guaranteed to Succeed website and on YouTube. Over the course of the series, viewers are informed as to what contract surety bonds are, why they are important, and how they benefit owners and owners’ projects. Please consider sharing these “NASBP Surety Shorts” with colleagues, clients, and others with whom you maintain social media connections. See related article in this issue.

NASBP also is working on portraying another facet of surety—that is, the passion that surety professionals possess for their industry! This campaign comes straight from President Nick Newton’s theme of “NASBP with Passion & Purpose”! Different members of the NASBP community are providing their own “Passion Tales” (as personal quotes) of why a surety career is so fulfilling. Like the “surety shorts,” individual “passion tales” are being released periodically on NASBP social media channels. Please consider contributing your own quote of why being a surety professional has become your passion and purpose. Though optional, a personal photo is requested as well. Such information can be directed to NASBP Director of Communications Kathy Hoffman at khoffman@nasbp.org. We would like to release these throughout the remainder of the year and well into next year. And remember, your contribution of a “passion tale” may provide the right inspiration for a person to launch or to progress further in a surety career! For examples, see the article, “Share Your Surety Passion and Purpose in Celebration of President Nick Newton’s Theme,” in this issue.
